Tour of a LessonnnPRE-READING introduces students to the theme of the reading. It doesnnthis by introductory pictures and asking questions about them to test theirnnunderstanding of the vocabulary in the reading text. This is done throughnnmatching exercises and choosing the correct answers from a supplied list.nnREADING TEXT focuses the students on the reading and requires studentsnnto reflect on their pre-reading activities when applicable. Students readnnsilently first. They are not expected to understand every word; they shouldnnbe encouraged to read for the general meaning and to use contextual cluesnnand their university background knowledge to aid comprehension. Many ofnnthe readings are in the form of conversations involving many people. Thisnngives the students the opportunity to perform role play and switch roles.nnCOMPREHENSION QUESTIONS provides students with an opportunity tonnread the whole text or parts of it while looking for specific information tonnanswer a set of comprehension questions. In addition, students are asked tonnidentify meanings of words and expressions in the reading text. Thisnnpractice allows them to make inferences about meanings and asks them tonndemonstrate their comprehension of the readings in a variety of ways, suchnnas using vocabulary in context.nnVOCABULARY & UNDERSTANDING introduces vocabulary in context.nnStudents match different vocabulary items with their descriptions. Thisnnsection tests students’ understanding of the readings by asking contentnnquestions.nnLANGUAGE FOCUS includes grammar in practice where students are asked tonndifferentiate between grammatical structures and understand theirnnfunctional usage. Students are also asked to provide written output in thennform of linguistic structures which reflect the structures covered in thennreadings.
